Korea Technical Director


SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION
-    Direct reporting to Arkema Korea President
-    Matrix reporting to Arkema CTO in France 


JOB DIMENSIONS
The job holder supervises:
-    The R&D Activity of Arkema in Korea (activities in Seoul)
-    The STC (Seoul Technical Center) in Hanyang University Seoul Campus: 10 FTE


ACTIVITIES
1. Global Technical Management
-    Coordinates the technical teams of Arkema and its subsidiaries in Korea
-    Develop the appropriate interaction with Business Management, to optimize the adequation between R&D organization and business objectives
-    Develop technical contacts at high level with Korean companies, particularly in areas corresponding to Arkema priorities (Energy, Electronics…)
-    Develop the link between Arkema R&D, and the Korean innovation ecosystem (start-ups, laboratories…)

2. STC (Seoul Technical Center) Director 
1) Site Management
-    Ensure site operation in compliance with Arkema Safety standards, monthly safety meeting
-    Accountable to build and respect yearly R&D and CAPEX budget of STC
-    Define with BUs the recruitment strategy and profile for new headcounts (or replacement)
-    Ensure good working environment and recognition (IP rewards, Safety awards, internal/external events, etc.)
-    Accountable for processes, organize monthly meetings, submit bi-monthly R&D highlights to Arkema R&D Community
-    Report monthly key activities/projects/highlights to Arkema Korea Management Committee 
Team management
-    Accountable for setting up the right organization in STC (Admin, Lab, BU teams)
-    Organize yearly appraisal for its N-1 team members, review N-2 objectives with Managers
-    Retain & develop people, attract talents
Set-up Research & innovative collaborations, support key projects
-    Identify and initiate collaborations of interest for Arkema in Korea with Universities, technology benchmark in Korea
-    Build network with other entities such as French/European/Korea Research Community in Korea
-    Regular visits (or participation in meetings) to Arkema key accounts in Korea, support exhibition (technical talks, etc.)

1. STC (Seoul Technical Center) General Manager 
-    Achieve global Arkema targets of Health/Safety/Environment/Quality
-    Achieve R&D objectives in Korea set by the different Business Units hosted in STC 
-    Attract, retain, and develop people, overall growth of STC’s expertise and excellence
2. Arkema R&D activities in Korea
-    Develop the intimacy between Arkema R&D and Korea innovation ecosystem
-    Develop high level technical relationships with key accounts in Korea

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Qualifications & Experience
-    PhD in Engineering chemistry or material science
-    10+ years’ experience in R&D management position in chemical or high-performance materials field
3+ years of international experience is a plus
2. Skills & Abilities
-    Fluent in Korean, English. French is a plus
-    Good understanding of Korean cultures
-    Strong communication skills, experience in dealing and interacting with customer/OEMs/R&D community/authority
-    Open-minded, good listener, convincing skills, proactive, business sense
